'Ohana After Dark

Even before Lilo and Stitch hit the big screen, Disney's Polynesian Resort had a restaurant called 'Ohana where everyone is treated like family. When you go to 'Ohana for dinner it is like one big family party with never ending food. 'Ohana is an all you can eat dinner served in a unique way. Here's a tip - go to 'Ohana with a very empty stomach. The hostess greets you with a friendly "Aloha Cousin!" Then explains that at 'Ohana everyone is your cousin. As you walk past the open fire pit you get a preview of what is to come. Another friendly Aloha from your cousin the server, who takes your drink order and returns with your starters.

Editor's Note: This is the second of two PS Spotlights to feature the 'Ohana Restaurant. Last month we reviewed 'Ohana's Character Breakfast. And, I would like to thank Coleen Bolton of MouseEarVacations.com® for volunteering to do this PS Spotlight.

The starters are served up on a circular tray that is placed on a spinning plate in the middle of the table. It is filled with stir fried veggies, salad with honey lime dressing, shrimp and chicken wonton, honey coriander chicken wings, and stir fried rice. The chicken wings are my favorite. They are sweet with a slight kick. Everyone helps themselves and, don't worry if you run out, your cousin will be around to fill it up again.

Next come the 3 foot skewers filled with choices of pork, turkey, sirloin steak, and shrimp all of which are cooked right on the open fire pit. Your cousin will come around and fill your plate with any and all of these until you can't eat no more. If you are like me you will eat more than you ever thought possible. Then when you didn't think you could eat another bite your cousin brings out the dessert that is included in the cost for dinner. It may seem strange at first but one bite will tell you that pineapple and caramel make a delicious combination.

What would a huge family gathering be without entertainment! 'Ohana doesn't forget that important element. There is a ukulele player who comes out and plays a few songs and even some games! There is hula hooping and a coconut rolling contest! Kids will have a great time here. If you're lucky the Magic Kingdom will provide some more entertainment with the Fantasy in the Sky fireworks display. 'Ohana has a wonderful view of the Seven Seas Lagoon. If you do time it right you can be dining and watching the fireworks complete with music which gets piped in. Fantasy in the Sky was not scheduled on our night of dining but we were able to watch the Electrical Water Pageant go by.

After stuffing myself at 'Ohana, I like to take a quiet stroll along the Polynesian beach. It is the perfect way to end a great night.

You can make dinner priority seating for 'Ohana up to 90 days in advance. 'Ohana is a large restaurant, but I have never been there when it wasn't crowded so I recommend making a priority seating, especially if you want to watch Fantasy in the Sky while you dine. The cost for dinner is $23.99 per adult and $9.99 per child age 3 - 11. That price includes the starters, skewers, pineapple and caramel dessert, and drink (coffee, tea, or soda).
