Trail's End Buffet
Last Updated: March 2010
Trail's End Buffet dining area in Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida.

The Trail's End Buffet in Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground is one of the best kept secrets at the Walt Disney World resort. It is nestled next to the Pioneer Hall where the popular Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue dinner show takes place. Up until a couple of years ago, Trail's End did not take advanced reservations. After a short re-make and expansion, Trail's End re-opened bigger and better than ever. With still the same great food and one of the best deals on property. The buffet area was expanded and easier to move around. In the past, tables were set right next to the buffet bars. The dining area now takes up most of what was Crockett's Tavern. Crockett's Tavern is now a corner bar with Davy Crockett memorabilia on the walls around it.

A plate filled with hot buffet food at the Trail's End Buffet restaurant.

My party of three was quickly brought to our table in the room with the buffet. Table was comfortable with plenty of room on it for the food and space with our neighbors. The dining room is not very noisy considering the small size of the rooms. The frontier woodwork and decor is very pleasing and relaxing. Lots of western objects and prints are on the walls.

Our server took our drink orders and told us to go to the buffet anytime and as often as we wished. We all started out with some fresh salad. The salad bar had a variety of fresh vegetables and dressings to go with the lettuce. After we finished the salad, we walked up to the main buffet. I grabbed a frontier pewter-like plate and proceeded to add the following hot entrees: BBQ ribs, fried chicken, corn and pasta. Later I would get hand-carved roost beef, mashed potatoes and gravey and BBQ baked beans. You will also find pizza, chili, soup and fish selections. All the food is kept warm and fresh with frequent re-fills by the cast members.

I know, how was it? It was very good. I think I got three plate fulls not including the desserts I selected from the dessert bar. The price of the buffet (see menu link below) is a bargain especially for families. The Pioneer Hall area of Fort Wilderness affords a lot to do for kids and adults before and after your meal. If you go at night, you can take evening wagon or carriage rides around the campground and into the woods.

For those not staying at Fort Wilderness here are a couple of ways to get to Trail's End. Take a resort boat from the Magic Kingdom to Fort Wilderness. The boat docks are a short walk to Trail's End. You can also take a resort bus to the Wilderness Lodge and transfer to a Fort Wilderness bus which drops you off near Trail's End. If you are driving, you have to park in the Fort Wilderness parking lot and then take an internal bus to Trail's End. I know, it seems like a lot but it is well worth it to eat a very hearty meal in an unique resort setting.
