I always love taking the time to eat at one of the resort hotels on Walt Disney World property. Not only does it provide you with a nice break from the parks but it also allows you to get to explore a different hotel. All hotels on property are unique in their own right and reward those willing to explore them. I had just arrived from the airport, met my parents at the Swan and we were off to lunch at the nearby Yacht Club at the Captain’s Grille. Our lunch was at 11:30AM and as we were early, they were not quite ready to sit guests for lunch yet. While we waited, we enjoyed the Yacht Club’s lobby as the Captain’s Grille is just off to the left of the main lobby. The restaurant was quiet once we were sat and the cast members were still cleaning up from the morning buffet.
Our server Roberto was immediately with us and took our drink orders as well as explaining the menu to us before leaving to get our drinks and my father’s appetizer, a bowl of New England Clam Chowder. The chowder was thick and creamy, with tons of clam meat, potatoes and bacon pieces. For lunch, my mother and I chose the soup and sandwich combination; she got the tuna croissant and the chowder and I got the shrimp salad croissant and chowder. Dad went with Fish and Chips. Our food arrived quickly and promptly. The sandwiches were on fresh croissants and stuffed full of tuna and shrimp respectively. Dad’s fish and chips were excellent as well; Roberto had thoughtfully given him two ramekins of tarter sauce even though Dad only uses vinegar on his fish. Roberto was quick and always near if we needed him. It was still fairly early for lunch and the restaurant was quiet, making it a relaxing place to start my vacation. I did have to pass on dessert though all looked delicious.
I enjoyed the Captain’s Grille and would like to try its breakfast buffet, which looked delicious from the glimpse I was able to get. It provides a nice break from the parks in the quiet nautical setting of the Yacht Club.
