Copyright© 2003 Scott Thomas Photography | Neon, formica, chromed metal and great food make up Disney-MGM's Hollywood & Vine Restaurant. The decor is typical diner motif circa 1950s and houses an impressive All-You-Can-Eat Buffet every night for dinner. The huge post cards found on the walls depict Hollywood during the MGM timeframe of the 1930s & 40s. Hollywood & Vine gives a feeling of timelessness and fits in very well with the overall theme of the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Hollywood & Vine as part of my group's Fantasmic! Dinner Package (see sidebar). The waitress who seated us reminded us of Roz from the movie "Monsters, Inc.". She had the same voice and made us all chuckle when she greeted us as "The Famous Thomas Family from New York". She even wore the same glasses as Roz. The cast members at Hollywood & Vine all wear waiter and waitress outfits straight from Mel's Diner of the old sitcom "Alice". Our waiter, also from New York but the City, was very attentive and friendly. UPDATE: As of June 25, 2006, Hollywood & Vine is the new home of the Playhouse Disney's Play 'N Dine character breakfast and lunch. Join Jo Jo and Goliath from "Jo Jo's Circus" and June and Leo from "The Little Einsteins." for songs and fun! |
Fantasmic! Dinner Package WDW Dining came up with a way to bypass the long waits typically found when attending Fantasmic! at the Disney-MGM Studios. People wait upwards to 2 hours to get a good seat or any seat at all. The Fantasmic! Dinner Package sets aside two sections in the Fantasmic! theater for the diners. Currently the restaurants being offered are The Brown Derby, Mama Melrose's and Hollywood & Vine. At times, both the Sci-Fi and 50's Prime Time have been included. Be sure to ask when making your PS.
After you pay your bill at your chosen restaurant you recieve a card allowing your group to enter the Fantasmic! show. The sign you see below is where you meet Disney CMs who check the card and let you get to the theater via a back-stage passage. The sign is located near The Darkroom store in the front of the park.

The buffet is "Huuuuugggggggeee". Two salad sections, an entree section, a side dish section, a kids section and a separate dessert bar. Our waiter took our drink order after we were seated and told us to dive into the buffet. I enjoyed a small Ceasar salad to start followed up by a platter of roast beef, baked salmon, green beans and mashed potatos. The choices vary from day to day but always feature five or six entrees and seven or eight sides. The Kid's section had the usual WDW staples: hot dogs, mac & cheese, chicken strips, and meatballs. As always, the Kid's section is lower to accomdate their reach. The dessert bar had Red Velvet cake, chocolate and M&M cookies, and pineapple upside down cake. To the delight of my family, Hollywood & Vine features a Make-Your-Own Ice Cream Sundae bar with lots of toppings and whipped cream. We had a large group of seven people ranging in ages from 13 to 64. Hollywood & Vine satisfied all their tastes and was one of the few times during our stay nobody complained they couldn't find anything to eat on the menu! I highly recommend Hollywood & Vine for families with kids under the age of 17. MGM's PS restaurants are a little hard to satisfy young ones and teenagers but Hollywood & Vine fills them up just fine.
